The Forest Gate Hotel

Reviewing as a pub as not obvious on Google. Great place which needs more publicity. Lovely staff, good drinks selection, pool table, darts, shows sport.

 Wanstead Park  £5.50 Cruzcampo The Forest Gate Hotel is located in the backstreets of Forest Gate, in the borough of Newham, East London. The nearest station is Wanstead Park. The pub dates from 1896 and is part pub, part hotel: the building includes a public house on the ground floor, with guest accommodation on the upper floors. The décor here is traditional, with an old-school pub feel and a little frayed around the edges. The servery is centrally located, with a unique island between the counter and the back bar. The bar is set out in an “L” shape and has a stage opposite the servery, a pool table to the left, and a dartboard at the far right. The décor consists of cast-iron Corinthian columns, ceiling roses, neutral-coloured walls, traditional seating and furniture, a boarded floor, and a proper pub carpet. At the rear of the pub is a covered area with a few benches. The beer selection is all keg and features a host of well-known brands. There were three redundant cask pump handles, one of which was proudly displaying a Tetley clip. I decided on a Cruzcampo; my pint was great, the price point was reasonable, and it came in under six quid. We arrived at 3 pm on a humid Saturday afternoon in August. I was with fellow pub enthusiast and all-round top fella @pintandanotherone on a crawl of the area. On arrival, we were the only punters in attendance and were joined shortly after by a local regular. The atmosphere, as you can imagine, was chilled, with sport on in the background on the few TVs dotted around the bar. The service was pleasant; the lady who served us was welcoming and courteous. I can imagine that when this pub was built it would have been a very grand place indeed. Although vestiges remain of its Victorian splendour, it now has a down-to-earth, old-school pub feel which I loved. Under new ownership, just been renovated. Grab a bargain whilst you can!!!

For the price, I have stayed in places that cost a lot more than this that also had no wifi or free breakfast. I really liked it here! Loved the breakfasts and the staff. Bed was comfortable everything was very clean. I will stay here again!

Nostalgia trip down memory lane to Forest Gate Hotel. Place felt familiar but odd, big TVs on the wall for sports nights. Bar person was friendly and the locals seemed to be enjoying the space. Will call in again when down that way.

I am amazed by the level of customer service shown by amanda! the hotel itself is of course a budget hotel but for what you pay it’s clean and every amenity works. 5 stars just for the customer service however!! very pleased with my stay would gladly stay again

The hotel has seen better days but it was clean and the pub nice. Quiet area, reasonably near public transportation.

The bar was nicely lit, with friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks. The music was unobtrusive and the clientele seemed to be rather easy going. A place I would visit again.
